[E-Type] Search for S1 4.2 FHC

As I have commented to some off-list, I am considering embarking on
a search for a S1 4.2 FHC to use as a (mostly) daily driver. I
won’t have to drive it daily, I just want to use it as much as is
practical. My 66 OTS was originally intended to fill this role,
but I decided that it was in need of a nut and bolt restoration and
would not fill the role of a driver, even for a limited time.

I thought I could wait until my OTS is done, but that is likely to
be a bit longer, and the tendency of some of you to wax poetic
about the e-type experience has made me somewhat impatient. I also
love the lines of the FHC and of course there is the synergy of
owning 2 or more of a similar car.

I would not mind needing to make some improvements or repairs, but
I want to allocate most of my car repair funds to the OTS, so it
can’t be another project. OTOH, maybe I should just take the same
money and spend it to accelerate the completion of my OTS. Or buy
a Mini Cooper S for my wife. I haven’t really decided what to do,
but I would be awfully tempted for the right car at a reasonable
price.

Anyway, assuming I don’t buy something else first, I would
appreciate hearing (off-list) about cars for sale that you think I
might be interested in. Also, I am curious what sort of car brings
what type of price. It seems to me that most of the S1 FHCs tend
to be advertised in the $15-25,000 range. This fits pretty closely
to Dan Mooney’s estimate on his website of $17-24,000 for a
structurally sound, presentable driver, but of course that leaves a
lot of room for elaboration.

Thanks, Jim–

Thanks to all that responded; I sincerely appreciate your thoughts and
comments and welcome any others. Please also continue telling your stories
of the e-type experience; they are truly an inspiration to those of us who
are trying to buy, or rebuild one.
