[E-Type] Series III E Type AC Wiring

In keeping with the thread on AC wiring, the blower on
mine was inop throught the switch but would run when
wired direct to 12V. I ordered & replaced the fan
switch this weekend. I took exceptional care to
ascertain that the wiring went back exactly as it was.
I now have an operative blower, but only on high
speed. I suppose that at some time in her nearly 33
years, someone could have possibly connected tthe
switch improperly. Consulting the “BIBLE”, I found
the wiring schematic on page 397. However, I could
not make heads or tails of their color coding. Anyone
out there that could offer some assistance?

Thanks,

Earl Kiker

Earl, your problem might be with the fan speed resistor mounted
near the windshield washer pump just below the heater box. On my
74 I found that the A/C would only work on high speed. After
inspecting the original resistor, I found that the wire winding on
the resistor was broken resulting in a broken circuit. Once I
found a replacement resistor the A/C worked perfectly. The hard
part was finding a replacement resistor. My original resistor was
black in color. I could not find one of those. I located a used
resistor colored green. It worked but when in use it began to
smell like melting wires - so I quickly disconnected it. I later
found a resistor that was coated in a brown covering. This was
much better. I can’t remember now where I found the brown one but
it was at one of the usual suspects. Hope this helps.–

Hi Earl, I had a spot of bother with my speed control resistor and I had
to rewire part of it. My note book shows the following info…I can’t vouch
for this being accurate as i am quite sure it was fiddled with before I did.
Front connection, brown/black, centre green, and rear connection light
blue. The full resistance is 9.6 ohms and the off-set centre is 1.6 ohms from
the light blue. If your fan speeds are not right then switch the G and U.
