[E-Type] Shimmy in steering wheel

O. K. so I had a hard pull to the right on my 1970 OTS so I
had the car aligned but it made no difference so the guy I
had working on the car switched the front wheels and then the
car pulled hard to the left. Next he switched the Wheels
front to back and the car tracks great. However, now the
problem is I have a real bad shimmy in the steering wheel
that makes the car very unpleasant to drive. I am about to
put the wheels back where they were and live with the pull.
Could this possibly be caused by the change in the location
of the wheel balancing weights on the car? Or perhaps the
tires should have been rotated and the wheels remain where
they were? Anyone had this issue? Any suggestions?
Thanks

Modified repost of my troubleshooting questions in your
original ‘‘pulling to the right’’ thread.

Let’s go back to basic troubleshooting.

Did the car used to drive nice and central at all speeds?

Does it have equal turns required to go lock to lock?

Did this pull suddenly occur or did it develop more slowly
(days, weeks)?

Did you do anything to the car, or did something happen like
a curbing, between it steering OK and the pull developing?

Now with the info from this new post.
I presume that the front tire pressures are equal?

Were the rear wheels (that you then put on the front)
properly balanced?–

I’ve had the problem on many cars but must admit not in the last 30
years. The radial tire is causing the pull, move it to the rear and
since it can’t steer the car the pull is gone. The shimmy is probably
an out of balance tire or out of tune wheel. Those are MUCH less
noticeable on the rear because its not connected to the steering wheel
and can only shake the suspension in one plane. I suspect the simpler
option is to find which front wheel/tire is causing the problem and
fix it, it could be a simple balance problem.

I’d say the shimmy is balace related, not as critical on the rear–

Leave 'em where they are. Fix the shimmy, it has to be addressed anyway.
It’s probably ballance, but may be tie rod ends or something else in the front end.

The pulling pretty much started all at once. I don’t recall
any mishap that may have caused it to start. The tire
pressure is fine but the rear wheels were not balanced when
they were put on the front, so that is my next more, have
them re-balanced. I am having them spin balanced. Several
of the responses I received think the wheels/tires are the
problem. I haven’t had a chance yet to check the stop to
stop on the steering wheel yet. What would that matter?
Thanks for the interest

Not knowing your history with the car prompted some standard
troubleshooting questions to ascertain the overall condition
of the steering as well as any events that may have
contributed to the problem.

Odd that it occurred suddenly without any apparent
contributing factor. Are the tires in good condition on
both sides?–

How old are the tyres? Before I changed my 20 year old
tyres I had a wobble at speed.turned out there was a bulge
on the inner face of one of the tyres as the carcass was
failing!!!if they are 10 years old or more then
suggest you verify they are perfectly round and
