My search for the perfect non metalic dark blue ended up with a
custom color that is very close to the ferrari dark blue (ponzi
blue). The problem with the jag DB , in my opinion, is that it has
too much purple and is really not a stunning color. The mazda miata
used some colors that are very close to the jag colors…BRG and DB
as example.
Be sure to use a dark primer coat(black)…it will add a nice depth
to the blue–

Hi Jack,
Nothing like the original Jaguar Dark Blue, if you have a matching
numbers car and want to keep it pure. Some in the past have
referred to it as Midnight Blue, which is totally wrong for a
Jaguar. I have two ‘Dark Blue’ E Types, a 67 Ser 1 and a 71 Ser 3.
The colour is rich and amazing with that hint of Magenta in the
tint. I have just completed a major rebuild on the Series 1, infact
walked out of our spray booth an hour ago, having finished the
bonnet, the car is nearly finished. It took me months in Australia
to track the right colour and formulas down, to be confident enough
to say I was on the right line. I have used Glasurit JAGUAR JDG
Dark Blue 1964-1979 line 22 MSDS AD 2224. I have used Spies Hecker
on some of my other cars, but I could not seem to get my paint
supplier to be over helpful? So took another option to Glasurit.
The Spies Hecker formula I had was JAGUAR DARK BLUE (2C) code 822
panel 054187. I hope this helps and stick with the Dark Blue if you
want the real thing!
Regards,
Rob–

best use their formula.
