[E-Type] SII Seat Floor Fasteners

My SII tub that was rebuilt for my PO by Martin Robey was missing
some body parts in the boot, and now I suspect the cabin. From the
documentaion that I have , as well as looking at pics on XKEdata
and CJ I am still unclear. The front of the seat rail clearly fits
into a front bracket, which is bolted ( or welded?) to the floor
and the rear of the seat rail is definitely bolted down.Spacers are
involved somehow.I would be grateful for any info on the details.TIA–

Hi John,
On my S-2, there are 4 qty 1/4x28 nuts that are tack welded to the
bottom side of the tub (per seat, so 8 in total).

Inside, there are stepped spacers at the front which receive and
hold the seat rails. At the rear is a non stepped spacer. The bolts
go down from the top, thru the rails/spacer/tub and threaded into
the nut.

The stepped front spacers make it possible to remove the seat by
removing the rear bolts only. The rear spacers are about an inch
wide by 3/8’’ thick with 1/4’’ ID hole. The fronts (if I recall
correctly) are 1’’ top, 1/2’’ on the bottom.

Dave, Thanks for the response to my question. I am having a little
difficulty getting my mind around the shape of the front spacer. I
understand that it is bolted to the floor, and the front of the
seat rail inserts into it. Exactly How does the seat rail fit into
this spacer. How high is the rail off the tub floor when its in
place. When I played around with mine I could see that the tub
Xbeam lies beneath the seat adjuster arm.I havn’t seen this part in
any parts diagrams.Thanks.–

Dear John. The front seats are secured by a spacer surmounted by a
boss which engages the seat slide. The rear of the slides are bolted
ontop of one spacer.Originally the receiving nuts were welded
underneath the floor pans this makes assembly easier but I don’t
think it’s nessessary to weld them. John Farrell has a replacement
kit ,I have found him to be a helpful mine of information and the
first place to look for difficult to find parts. Good Luck Gareth–

Hi John - had to spend a little time working today so I couldn’t
answer quickly. I remember when I was assembling my ‘‘Jag in a box’’
I couldn’t figure this seat thing out either.

Look at the bottom of the seat. you’ll see two rails. The bottom
one has a circle cut out of it. The front spacer is ‘‘T’’ shape. The
cut out in the rail slides under the horizontal part of the ‘‘T’’.
This keeps from rising up or going forward. The bolted down rear
spacer keeps it from going toward the rear. Slide the lower seat
rail forward! I couldn’t visualize how it worked because the seat
was too far forward and I was looking at the upper rail.

Trust me - when you get the right pieces in front of you and the
right seat rail forward - you’ll go ‘‘Duh, that was simple!’’

I can’t get to my car to send a pic. Email me a fax number - I can
draw a picture easier than I can explain it.

I second that! John Farrell is one of the best. Unlike 50% of the
other repro parts we buy, his are always excellent.
Cheers,
