[E-Type] SII Wiring Diagram...Tagged Wires

I am reviewing the wiring system to see what I have in my many
boxes of parts!I have 90% new looms , but not for the harness
associated with the ignition switch and instrument/ fuse panel and
the old harness is still installed on the latter. The insulation is
in good shape, although some of the wires are cloth wrapped and the
colours are sometimes difficult to decipher. The plastic insulation
colours are in contrast very clear. I have noticed that I have a
thick W wire (that leaves fuse 6) and shows up a couple of feet
away and this line has a 1/8th inch wide black band at each end.
The black tag clearly identifies the line uniquely. I see no
mention of this in the wiring diagram. Now re the hazard switch, I
see that a G line carries a yellow tag. On the wiring disgram it
says ‘‘BLACK IDENT’’ for this wire. Is there any rhyme or reason the
tagged wires?. TIA.–

John!
I have tried to trace my wiring to the ignition switch for
the last couple months and found the schematic from the
factory book full of errors. No help at all using the colors.

Hi John,
I have a similar situation, retaining the dash harness. I found
some of the wires had ‘‘changed color’’ with age. I had to use
solvent to clean some of the wires. Believe it or not, I actually
plugged a white (that looked black) into a real ground (black) with
disasterous results.

A white/black wire shows (in my diagram) to be for the rear window
defogger. Goes to the missing toggle switch in my OTS gauge panel,
then to a 6RA relay, then to the window.

My wiring schematic is from Coventry Auto Components,
entitles ‘‘Jaguar E Type/series -2’’. I’ve found it very useful and
perhaps most important: accurate.

Hi Dave, I too have had some difficulty in identifying the clours
as they have morphed with age. Specifically the N and W can look
similar, and you have to check the location to decide which clour
it actually is. My factory diagram does swow thw WB circuit
that drives the heated rear window. However, while I have the switch
in place on the dash there are no wires as its ab OTS. Since
your diagram is from a different source please tell me if you have
any tagged wires. specifically my diag shows a G line tagged at
the hazard switch. It is shown as a B tag, actually mines a Y
tag.Does your diagram show any other tags? Do you have tagged lines
on the wires in your car? Do you know the purpose of these
tags.Regards.–
