[E-Type] SIII firewall diagram

I have started creating a labeled photo diagram of the SIII
firewall, what bolts or feeds through where. There are a
lot of holes in that firewall, and I have about 7-8 holes
that I no longer remember the purpose of despite photos and
notes. Am I wasting my time - is there such a diagram
available anywhere?–

I have placed two zoom-in pictures on my photo album and
they should appear by Friday. There are 10 yellow squares
highlighting the locations I am unsure of, but which should
be evident on an intact car (I didn’t start photographing
until part way through the strip down). Post here or email
me directly. I will make the entire diagram available to
anyone until there is a way to post documentation on this site.
LH
(1) and (2) - I believe not used at all
(3) - OK - rubber inspection port on RH footwell
RH
(4) - (10) undetermined yet–

Hi Mark:

1&2 are not used in the LHD cars

6&7 are attachment points for the heater box.

The heater/vent box fits into the large #8 opening and is the means
by which heat and ventilation enters the cabin. Don’t forget the
seal that goes between the heater box and the firewall.

Not sure about the others - I’ll have to do a visual on my car
later,

6-9 and the furthest right petrol pipe clip point are all
the heater box (oops)…that leaves only 4, 5, and 10
unidentified (probably pipe clips all).–

Mark:

Pipe clips would be my guess, maybe for the hydraulic pipes.

Firewall weak points found and request for rubber source.

  • subframe mounts points all have minor corrosion. The
brackets on the subframes appear to have had a black primer
and then a light grey, very hard, seam filler which is hell
    to remove.
  • the entire area below the master cylinder has soft paint.
Looks OK, but comes away easily with a putty knife. The
fluid leaked into the compartment as well so the floor is in
the same shape - the floor sealer is soft.
  • bonnet latch and locating pin attachment points are all
    somewhat rusty
  • the thick seam sealer near the battery compartment shows
rust when it is pried away
  • all rubber grommets and plugs have hardened and probably
need replacing if I can find them. The hardest ones may be
the large ones under the bonnet locating pins on the sides.

Does anyone know where to get these rubber plugs etc.? They
are not listed in the parts manual (the firewall in general
goes undocumented by Jaguar).–

Mark, Yes bulkhead/firewall documentation doesn’t exist.

OTS parts book pg 28.50 has all the grommets and plugs.
unfortunately they don’t tell you where they go. I had the
advantage when I lived in NH 20 miles away from SNG(British
Auto USA at the time). I just brought pieces in with me and
Tom Giffen would match them for me. (I sure miss Tom)

sngbarratt.com & xks.com should be able to help.–
