[E-Type] SIII Horn Relay

Is the Series III horn relay common to any other Jag model? Any aftermarket
equivalents, etc?

Thanks,
Dave

Replace it with a Bosch.
Cheaper, more dependable (will last longer), and even waterproof!
What more can you ask of life?

I believe they’re all 6RA Lucas relays. They should interchange without
difficulty.

If you feel the need to go generic, Pick up a Bosch relay, 30 amps should
be about the right rating. I can give you pin equivalents.

In reply to a message from Braun, David G. sent Tue 4 May 2004:

Dave,

The S1, SII, early SIII and early XJ6 all used the same horn relay.
The relay was changed later in the SII production but I think the
only difference is how it is sealed. Any of these realys should be
mechanically and pin interchangeable with no fuss. Or get a Bosch.

Good morning, Mike

I could use the pin equivalents if you have the time.

Thank you
Carlo

Yeah, I’m getting good at resurrecting decades-old threads :grinning:

Yes but at least you’re searching the archives for answers first instead of asking a question that’s already been answered 100 times on the forum!

With Lucas relays, the W contacts are the windings. They are non-polarized. The C contacts are the points. For Bosch relays, 85 and 86 are the windings. Some relays have a diode, and this will be marked on the case. In that case, the proper polarity will need to be observed for the windings. But most of them are non-polarized. 30 is the common point, and 87 is the normally open point. 87a is the normally closed point. See:
