[E-Type] Stromberg secondary shaft removal

Once again, for those dedicated few who still have the
Stroms…I’ve removed the secondary plates and shafts and
plan on tapping and bolting the remnant shaft holes. Can anyone who
has done this tell me what size tap they used, and if they further
drilled said hole to enable aforementioned tap, to what size please?–

Les!
Why do that extra work, you can just leave them in place.

If memory serves, once the bushings are out, 3/8-24 works fine. A
allen plug with some red loctite finishes it off.–

Only took about 3 mins to remove them, and another 30 mins to tap each
side and stick the screw in (once I have them of course). then I
don’t have to fool with the secondaries at all!!

As an aside, when I removed the secondaries I slide the carbs back on.
The carb and the manifold do not line up well at all…they must be
a good 1/8" off at the top…I’m gonna remove the extra material
so the transition is smoother. On Tue, Aug 31, 2010 at 6:04 PM, W. Schuster ewsch@isp.com wrote:

As you mentioned, the bushings are easy to take out. If you don’t
remove them, then when you go to tap them, they will just spin and
come out anyway.–

Les - When I did mine last year I simply used a nut and snug
fitting Allen key style rounded head bolt at each end with tight
rubber washers plus a little sealant, as I didn’t have a suitable
tap. Seems to work fine with no evidence of air leakage.–
