[E-Type] Suggestion for working under your E-Type

1st - Disclaimer: I have no interest in this product whatsoever
other than as a very satisfied user of it. I don’t even know the
proprietors of the company. I just want to turn a few people on to
a great product that actually lives up to its claims.

Both my Healey BJ8 and the '68 OTS have almost zero clearance
beneath, the Healey about 4.5 inches, the Jag a bit more. I have
been frustrated for years that I can’t just slip under these cars
for routine maintenance without using dangerous lift and block
methods. In my area you can’t rent time on a mechanic’s lift due to
insurance issues. Very few of us can afford or accomodate a 4 post
lift in our garage.

A few years ago I took the advise of a few Healey guys and
purchased a KwikLift ramp system. It is essentially a drive up ramp
that sits on your garage floor. You can park your car on the ramp
either at an incline or horizontally. When the ramp is lifted to
its 20’’ height front and rear, you have full and safe access to the
entire underside of your car. The front of the ramp lifts and
locks in place before you drive on it and then once the car is in
place the rear end of the ramp lifts up 20’’ from the floor
utilizing a standard hydraulic floor jack and also safely locks in
place. Now I can creep under my cars, work on them at a comfortable
30’’ arm stretch and feel very safe that the car isn’t going to come
crashing down on my body. Here’s the website of Kwiklift. It has
superb info with great pics and detail. Again, I have no financial
interest whatsoever, just a very pleased customer for the past 4
years. http://www.kwiklift.com/
Cheers!

In reply to a message from coop1@rcn.com sent Wed 18 Jun 2003:

Randy,

Looks like a great product! Now if I could just find a link to
KwikGarage I’d be in business . . .

I have the Kwiklift too and second Randy’s comments. I
would also recommend that, if you are thinking of
buying this system, you also consider getting the
castors and the bridge.

With the castors I am able to move mine out of the way
very easily to a dead spot in the garage when not in
use. The bridge is invaluable for jacking up the
front/rear of the car when on the ramps.

Just another very satisfied customer with no other
interest in the product etc…

As I have mentioned before, I have the Kwikift setup also. I got the
additional bridges (be careful when ordering these items…you need the
shorter ones for the narrower track of the older cars), the castor
assemblies and extra bottle jacks. The entire setup cost me around $1500 I
think. Had my garage have 10ft headroom, I would have opted for a more
tradional lift assy, but, with the nominal 8ft, this device has proven
extremely useful.

Be careful though…suddenly find a lot more friends when people realize
you have this kind of setup…

No connection with the company or any of its workforce…as others have
said, simply a satisfied customer.
