[E-Type] Tail Light Cups

Between the Tail Light and the body on a 1970 Jaguar
XKE there is a metal cup like fitting that attaches the lights
to the body of the car. I have not been able to locate a
place to purchase these cups. Does any one have any
suggestions. SNG Barrats are quoting me 260 english
pounds to but the whole light fitting. I just need the
backing cups.

Any help appreciated

Garry, The ‘cups’ as you call them are the steel pressed
mounting plates for the light fitting. The cups fit to the
rear tub on the outer edge by 2 screws into into plastic
sockets held in a small bracket welded to the tub.On the
inner edge 2 10-32 screws go into bosses already installed
on the rear wall of the boot. I will pm you a picture of
mine. These were rather rusted out, but I managed to recover
them sufficiently for re-use. I don’t know of a source new (
did you ask Martin Robey ?), but suggest you try for some
used ones. Because they are stuck on the back of the car I
expect they see a lot of water and muck–

I managed to get mine through Robey’s . Only one of my
originals was almost complete. Both had been heavily attacked
by tin worm…–

Note that there were different ‘mounting panels’ or cups as
you say. One for the earlier tail light assembly where the
lamps were stacked and another for the later assembly where
the lamps were side-by-side. You will need to specify when
you order.
