[E-Type] Terry's Jaguar Parts

Anyone like to comment on Terry’s in general? I guess I must be the

I have only dealt with them a few times, but I’m definitely pleased
with their service and parts. Some of the parts were even NOS.–

I, quite frankly, have not used Terry’s for day-in day-out
orders. However, for unique items like Cometic Gaskets I
have found them to be fine. In fact, in one instance, Bill
Terry went above and beyond to provide a me Gasket, not only
spending time to research it but then assuring me with his
personal guarantee that it would work! My take on Bill is
that he is a fine Gentleman…

You’re either very unlucky or you haven’t given them a chance to resolve
whatever problem you have encountered. I’ve had a few issues in the
past with lost/damaged shipments from them, and one case that I can
remember where I sent the incorrect part. They were very timely and
congenial in making it right. In one case a “very” expensive part had
been damaged. They told me to throw it in the trash and they sent a new
one along pronto. Good folks.
Eric

Eric is correct–I have dealt with Bill for years and never had a
problem that was not possibly my fault. Give them a chance to
resolve it. By the way the same goes for SNG and most of the others.–

I have been restoring my car for the past 4 years and 90% of my
parts purchases are from Terry’s. My contact there is Dave Mars and
I must say he goes out of his way to help, even on the smallest
item. Good reliable fast service.

I will – TJP has been among the best to work with, for my part – Bill is
knowledgeable, courteous, and fair. Their parts work, and prices are as good
or lower than anyone’s. I often talk to Dave, in parts, who is equally
helpful. Keep in mind that I am building a “comfortable driver,” not a show
car, and I am compelled to do things slowly and myself.

I dunno… maybe I’m just too dumb to know when I get bad parts… but
nearly everything I have ordered for my car has been right, from them and
others.

I can tel you that when I had my brake cylinders resleeved, TJP did it
quicker, as well, and for sure less expensively than anyone else, and with
the sort of PR that made me glad I had it done. I did not find that to be
the case with a different vendor.

my 2 cents worth

I have dealt with Terrys for many years. Bill Terry is a great guy,

always good to discuss problems with. He has been more than fair with me when we
had problems.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that Terry’s,
Classic Jaguar, XK’s, SNG Barratt, etc. all get their panels
from Martin Robey. They come to them with a thin primer
(protection) coat that should be removed completely and the
bare metal sanded before painting. I seriously doubt that
Terry’s or anyone else would spray primer onver a rusted panel.

In reply to a message from Richard L. sent Fri 27 Apr 2007:

Well someone did, not a thin coat of primer, but a thick coat with
runs, probably to smooth out the surface rust and hide the oil
marker writing underneath. It all comes off for repaint anyway.
But I would hate to order a truckload of parts only to have to
restore them all before I could use them, so I made the decision to
keep any possible future purchases simple in order to keep my own
sanity.–

My experience with body panels is about like that.
It isn’t fair to blame Terry’s for it, that’s just the way it is. When you
get around to installing it, you’ll probably find it won’t fit as well as
you’d like either.

Poor fitup on the first try was a given, but it works well and
nobody will ever know. I did imagine that the panel was old
replacement stock from a bankrupt supplier that Terry’s purchased
for pennies on the dollar and incorporated into his own stock.
Something I would have done too, which is why I cannot complain.

As a buyer, I just have to ask lots of questions up front, but when
a seller becomes irritated, it’s time to cut it off. I am good at
irritating sellers, but it’s the only way to get to the bottom of
the product quality, and besides, it’s my money.–

Moff (Do you have a real name?),

If you’ve had a problem at Terry’s and haven’t gotten satisfaction,
I strongly suggest you call, and ask to talk to Bill Terry
himself. I absolutely guarantee that if you have a valid
complaint, he will make things right. Bill is a true gentleman,
extremely knowledgeable, and very committed to providing excellent
service. He has gone way, way, way out of his way to solve
problems for me more than once (and in one case the problem was
parts that were not even purchased from him!), and is an absolute
pleasure to deal with.–

This is pure bs! It is also libelous. Bill Terry is a great person as are
his hardworking personnel. You are taking unsubstantiated cheap shots at a
company and a person about whom you know nothing obviously.I urge you to drop it.

I too want to add my highest regards for Bill Terry and his
associates!
They have always been first class Jaguar people for me since 1984.
Whenever I have had problems, they’ve made it right. You could not
ask for better people to work with. IF the problem is their fault,
they will spare no expense to correct it. Bill is a tru gentleman.
