[E-Type] Thermo-Coupling Clearance?

I have just purchased 68 series 1 1/2 and the radiator fans were
hooked up direct to ignition switch the result being continuos
running therefore burning up fans. Thermo coupler was broke off so
I ordered new one. When installed it will not clear the radiator
stone guard when bonnet is closed.Probably how original was broken.
The thermo coupler screws into front of radiator on this model
unlike previous years. The catalogs I have looked at do not show a
notch in the stone guard frame to allow for the clearance of the
thermo coupler. What gives? Any help appreciated---------Joe Weaver–

There should be a LOT of clearance between the radiator and the stone
guard. If you measure it, we can compare. I suspect that the stone guard
isn’t installed correctly, or the radiator was replaced with a too thick
core, or some similar issue. How high are the contacts on the otter switch?

I meant to say stone guard frame. The stone guard is missing. I
don’t think it is radiator since I need at least 2 inches for
thermo coupling to clear and radiator is not that thick. I would
measure but car is at my mechanics shop. Will be out of town a
couple days. I can take some pics if that would help when I return.
