[E-Type] Tips on installing Gutter chrome

I’d appreciate any tips on installing the gutter chrome on
my newly painted 69 FHC. The previous chrome strip had
been glued on and broke on removal so I purchased a new set
from SNG.

The cross section shape of the new pieces are a ‘‘C’’ shape
and trial fitting them looks like the ‘‘C’’ is not wide
enough to snap over the painted gutter rail.

Any advice on installation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Andy–

Andy,
I installed my old ones that were re-chromed, so I cannot say if
the profile of the news ones will be the same. If they are, then I
placed the top edge on the gutter bodywork and pressed downward or
inward toward the windows to snap it on. At the two ends, bend
the tabs over the metal work to retain them.
good luck,–

Hi Andy

Just removed mine during tear down and they came off
rather easy. As stated start by placing the top edge in
place then push bottom edge in towards car.

Not sure if this is the casework others but when I removed
mine the metal under mine was scraped clean of paint in
some areas. Not a lot of rust but I will make sure to
apply plenty of clear upon repaint.

With how simple these came off I would hope they could go
back on without removing paint in the process??–

Hi Guys, thanks for your replies, I wish I had the original
chrome like both of you do.

I’ve taken many measurement of the new chrome trim and
there’s no way that it will fit as is. On the 2 bends the
outside dimension is less than the width of the painted
gutter.

I spoke to Will at SNG and he told me that there is only
one place in the UK that makes it and all the distributors
buy the same stuff. He told me that some grinding of the
painted gutter may be necessary and the factory even had to
do that on the assembly line when the cars were new.

Looks like I’ll be removing some material with my dremmel
to make it fit. Pretty scary attacking a brand new painted
car with a dremmel.
