[E-Type] V 12 Maintenance Issues

Mike , Re the ZS 's , there is a book by Haynes , ISBN 1 85010 0195; 56
pages or so + appendices. Very detailed , and covers a variety of ZS CD
carbs fitted to a range of cars
Re Head rests. To remove the headrest from the frame of the seat
back unfortunately you have to rip the vinyl backing and release a small
metal clip inside the hr slide tube . On the other hand i think you
might be able to access the hr , with it still affixed in the seat back
, by removing the the two screws and dropping the plastic plate beneath
the hr. You then remove th upholstery nails and withdraw the hr from the
metal frame. This is a bit tricky i would imagine with hr still on the
seat back , but unless like me you are doing a complete overhaul , you
won’t want to mess with the inside of the seat .Hope this helps.
Re folding the rear seat. This I’m afraid is another of those famous
situations in the ROM that was written shortly after the authors had
been drinking their depleted Brasso and smoking their socks after a
lunch break !Or in other words it is a complete fabrication that may
have applied to some earlier form of the XKE , but certainly not
applicable to the S III. The rear seat can be removed a piece at a time
but hardly by folding.
Hope this helps , John M Holmes , S III 2+2 , Ont

Hi John. Sorry to kick a little sand in your oatmeal but it is my
understanding the S-III did have a moveable seat back until VIN 1S7.2660 –
don’t know the VIN for the RHD cars. It did not fold down as some have
described. It moved forward to provide more floor space like the previous
series 2+2’s

I owned the 1045th left hand drive sIII made. The rear seat was the
push foreward kind to increase the room in the back, not the folding
kind.
