[E-Type] V12 E Type Not Charging

After a winter lay up I am finding that the voltmeter is reading low
(off charge)and progressivly gets worse with use. Also the ignition
light is not lighting up but was glowing recently whilst running.
(bulb ok)
I have cleaned and soldered all the spade connections at regulator
and alternator.i also tried another battery. All is original Butec
equipment.I have also cranked up the allen bolt at regulator to
maximum but with no effect.
I have owned the car from 5 years old so it is all untampered and
maintained.It always charged well previously.
I suspect the regulator, would this cause the ignition light to stop
glowing when only ignition is turned on!Would like to leave
alternator alone.All belts ok.
Any experience welcome.

Run the car to Halfords and have them do a drop test on the battery
for free.
If thats OK, measure the battery terminal voltage, Should be about
13.8 volts with engine running.
If its lower than 13.8 Volts, its probably the alternator (1st
choice) or the regulator unit (2 nd choice).

Not sure what model you have but you could remove the alternator
and try polarising it on a good the battery.

However batteries go phut if left for long periods flat. My money
would be on the battery if not try repolarising. A friend took his
off and sent it for a rebuild to an honest guy in Slough. he said
it just needed polarising. Kinda restores your faith in humans
sometimes !
