[E-Type] Vehicle history reports

This topic has been discussed several times in the past with no
conclusion on how to obtain history data. I discovered a new
service today that is the only one I have tried that will accept an
E’s 7 digit VIN. All others have required the modern VIN format.
So I tried it and it came back with records found. I went no
further. If I did the cost would have been $7US. I have no idea
how in-depth the info is, if at all, but thought I would pass this
on. The name of the service is InstaVIN.–

Not much money to risk for a look to see what they have. I don’t
think the national system of tracking history was created until the
80s so its hard to imagine they could give you much history but for
the money worth a try. I would expect any reportable events (claims,
registrations etc.) from the mid to late 80s could be in the report.
As a side note 5 years ago or so I changed insurance companies and was
shocked to find that they (ins. cos) have a database that shares all
claim data. I was applying for insurance for a VW in Calif. and a $69
claim for towing came up for the E-type in Conn. several years prior
(coolant hose broke). Different insurance co., different car,
different state but they knew. I can only assume their database is
keyed on my ID otherwise they would have no reason to have known the E
existed. Between these guys, the credit reporting agencies and all
the info collected about us on the web they already know a lot more
than we want to know. Just not much about old cars before the 80s.

Well, curiosity got the better of me and I coughed up the big
bucks. Nothing new, just the one record of when I titled the car.–
