[E-Type] weird oil pump problem

Friend hs a 3.8S. When he turns right the oil pressure drops to zero.
Then he has to pull to the side of the road, idle and sit a while until
it goes back up. Afraid to keep driving as the tappets start to knock.
anyone heard of such a thing. What-zit??

Lloyd,
Sounds like your friend needs an oil baffle or windage tray in the oil pan.
Oil is sloshing away from the pickup in the corner, and takes a few seconds
to re-circulate when settled back down. Have him verify that his “full” is
really full - as mentioned in another thread circulating now. (pickup tube
could also be bent to the side as well).

Lloyd, I used to have an old Ford pickup that would do the same thing -
basically the centrifugal force pulls all the oil to one side and leaves the
oil pickup sucking air. Some engines, particularly racing engines, install
baffles with holes in them to allow movement of oil, but restrict this
‘sloshing’. Perhaps Terry or Dan has some words of wisdom?
