The splined fitting that holds the centre wiper arm has
come loose and is just turning on its spindle. Not
surprising - it seems to be just held in place by 3 clouts
with a centre-punch.
Any theories as to how to rectify, or a source of new
splines ?–

In reply to a message from Anthony Richards sent Sun 20 Sep 2015:
I had that happen with a replacement rack I bought from one
of the usuals years ago, probably about 1998. My first
thought was that maybe that was some kind of safety
feature, like a shear pin on an outboard motor propeller,
to keep from wrecking the wiper rack or motor if a wiper
arm got in a bind. My second thought was I’d rather have
wipers that actually wiped.
My solution was to drill a small hole, about 3/32’’,
completely through the splined fitting and the spindle. I
then inserted a piece of rod the same size with a smidge of
adhesive on it to keep it in place and carefully dressed
the ends with a dremel tool. Be sure to drill close enough
to the top end of the splined fitting or you will also
drill through the sleeve the spindle rides in.–
