Well, I went down to my garage Sunday, which is about 4 miles from home. I
was unloading stuff from my car into the garage, and stepped outdoors to
take a leak, and accidentally shut the door. I was locked out. All my car
keys and the keys to the garage were in the garage. I still had my
cellphone in it’s holster, but it didn’t work well outdoors at my garage.
The only place it does work is upstairs in the far right corner. I wish
the carriers would build more towers, but the public doesn’t like cell
towers for some strange reason.
So I started walking.
My grandfather lives about a mile and a half away and had my garage door
opener remote from when he was working down there. So I walked halfway
there and my cellphone started to get good reception, so I called and
thankfully he was home. I got the garage door opener, and he gave me a
ride back to the garage.
The E-type is an object of my dreams. I was supposed to be putting my
winter Saab back together, but the E-type just draws me. I sat in it, and
aside from some dust, it was just damn cool. I haven’t driven it anywhere
for 2 months since I want to protect it from winter salt and sand. I got
out, and rolled it to the door, opened up the garage doors, and started
the car. WOW. Just listening to it’s sporty noise was the best music I’ve
heard all week. I let it run for about half an hour while I shoveled snow
out front of the garage. Ocassionally I’d check the temperature and oil
pressure guages and everything was fine. I shoveled the snow away from
about 20-30 feet of the 70’ long driveway while the E-type warmed up.
About the time snowshoveling gets to be good excercise, I’d had enough, so
I just stood there in the darkness with my shovel and listened to the
throbbing exhaust till my ears got chilled.
With a big smile, I shut the car off, shut the garage doors, and left.
It made the day fantastic, even though I didn’t get to go anyplace.
I can’t wait till mid-april when the roads are rinsed clean from winter
salt, and the sun is shining warm.–
