[E-Type] Wiper upgrade - part1

The standard wipers on the e-type are woefully inadequate when it
is raining lightly. Being fed up with switching them on and off
every five seconds, I have fabricated an intermittent wiper upgrade
so that the wipers wipe with a user-set frequency rather than
persistent use of the ‘‘on/off’’ (actually ‘‘slow/park’’) switch.

All references are to the series 3 wiring diagram. See the photo
album entry titled ‘‘Wiper upgrade’’ for the pictures in the E-.

Original set up:-

The wiper has three mutually exclusive settings:-
1/ Park connected - red/green and blue/green connected by switch.
The motor runs up to one revolution until it disconnects itself at
the parking position. Most people think of this as ‘‘off’’, but it is
only odd once it has wiped through to the end of remaining cycle
and then disconnected itself.
2/ Motor connected in position ‘‘speed 1’’- green (12v) connected to
blue/green
3/ Motor connected in postion ‘‘speed 2’’ - yellow/green connected to
green (12v)

Wiper switch 36 is rewired as follows:-

Keep yellow/green connected as before on connection 2
Keep green connected as before on connection 4
This ensures high speed operation is maintained exactly as oem spec.

Unplug the red/green cable and the blue/green cable.

Connect a (female) blade connector to position 5 (where the
blue/green cable sat) and connect instead to pcb as shown (’‘green-
power’’).
This provides power to the pcb only when the middle portion of the
switch (slow speed) is selected. No power goes to the pcb when
switch 36 is in either high speed or park/off positions.

Connect a flat blade terminal to red/green wire which formerly went
to position 7 of swich 36 and connect instead to pcb as shown
(’‘red/green-park’’)

Connect a flat blade terminal to blue/green wire which formerly
went to position 5 of switch 36 and connect instead to pcb as shown
(’‘blue/green-common’’)

Fabricate a new earth connection to the pcb - I connected a spade
terminal to the map light switch 101 which has a convenient earth
link. Connect the earth anywhere you feel happy with.

You have riwired swich 36 as follows:-
1/ Motor disconnected
2/ Motor connected via pcb such that postion ‘‘speed 1’’ and park are
alternately connected
3/ Motor connected in postion ‘‘speed 2’’ - yellow/green connected to
green (12v)

How it works, parts list in parts 2 and 3.
Do to space constraints, this is posted over several entries.

kind regards
