Electric hydraulic power steering conversion Mark 2

My 62 Mark 2 has a rack/pinion kit from XKs Unlimited which has been working well with the stock power steering pump, but now I am attempting to convert to an electric hydraulic pump using a 2006 Toyota MR2 unit which is similar to the Astra/Vauxhall unit sold with the Wilkinson kit. I’m not getting much power assist, and I’m wondering if anyone has ideas about what might be wrong. The pump appears to be running correctly.

these P/S systems are usually simple , low pressure would seem logical.
any way you can adjust the pressure, like a spring loaded valve, shims maybe!

i would think that Toyota pump would have enough volume? donno.

Has anyone done the EZ electric hydraulic system that fits under the dash?
Sure seems simple, but is costly. All else stays stock.
Would like a report if anyone has it.
Thanks,
john

So you think maybe it doesn’t put out enough volume to push the rack valve? I’ll have to test more carefully over the entire lock to lock range.

no! i would think NOT enough pressure, for quick response steering!

Thanks. I’ll check that out.
