Experience with RetroAir Kit (condensation)

I found a place in my area that is a British Specialist who has worked on several of these kits before. He thinks he can help me out. I am bringing my car to him Monday, so we shall see.

Finger’s crossed.

Keep us posted: I am interested in how, if he can, address this problem.

This place best be good as they are not fast, and I doubt they are cheap. I’m getting a bit anxious on this…

It’s been there a month??

My antennae are tinglin’.

Spoke to the shop. Progress is being made. He is 75% happy with the results. As far as I understand, he has rerouted and insulated the lines to the evaporator in the cabin.

Waiting for a hot/humid day to test.

11 weeks later, my car is ready for pickup-- but I’m out of town, so I will get it Friday.

The AC has reportedly been fixed. Also a new Power Steering Pump and interface hose/cable to stop a leaking issue. Also, upgraded the Alternator to a 70 something vs the stock 40.

Fast, good, cheap – pick one  Actually, price was pretty reasonable but not cheap.

I look forward to getting the car back and hopefully have some dry, hot, weather to test my fancy AC.

Look for another update soon.

Good news. Bad news is the hurricane coming our way.
Enjoy your “new” car … Ole

Have the car back. AC is better but not fixed. They are going to redo the drain lines into the unit when I bring it back in a few weeks.

Alternator is a 100+ unit.

New PS pump and steering is heavy. Was told that was normal until some miles allows system to naturally bleed/burp— thoughts.

Thanks.

I refurbished my PS pump with parts from SNG when I first started working on getting the car roadworthy and didn’t experience any kind of “break in” symptoms. I had what I’d call full PS from the get go, but in your case I’d just see if it improves over time before jumping to conclusions.
Maybe some others will jump in and say different based on their experience ?

Unless something was assembled incorrectly…NO.

PS doesn’t require break-in.

$*^%#!!!

Cars going back in Early October so I’ll complain about this again.

Normal procedure to bleed the system is to turn wheel to full lock both ways after the unit is installed . Can be repeated a few times if you want. Have never had to do more than that.

Thanks all. I’m just frustrated. Looks like they ripped my leather too to top off a great experience :frowning:

Car is going back in s few weeks. I’ll give them a chance to make this right.

power steering should have assist as soon as filled with fluid and engine running. It is self bleeding. Air will bleed out on it’s own from use and should only take a few minutes.

Ok, All summer I thought about having an AC system installed in my black/red 66 FHC. I rarely drive it because of the uncomfortable heat and humidity of PA during the summer months.

This thread only confuses me more. Does anyone have a recent successful AC installation story?

I truly think the majority of my issues are install related. If I had it to do over again, I’d have taken the care to a place that was listed on the retro air website.

However, I can not yet recommend this kit.

Thanks for answering, all along I thought the problem was most likely installation related. I’m hoping you get the condensation problem sorted out and can give a favorable review.

I just installed a retro air in a 1969 FHC that had an A/C system originally.
So, no new firewall cutting. Installing this system is no easy task, but can be done. Best if you can do it yourself as you are more likely to take it to
the detail levels necessary. It’s a good system. The front to back placement
of the interior evaporator is critical to the drain hoses as is the height of the rear compared to the front. The rear fan case is much lower.
And this is the easy pesy stuff!!

Michael can you please post photos of the engine compartment showing the compressor and idler pulley arrangement and the routing of the hoses from the compressor to the evaporator. Also photos of the finished interior with the new radio console.
My wife keeps bugging me to install A/C into our 69 FHC that had A/C originally but it was all removed. I installed Retroair into my 74 MGB GT and that was fairly easy but not a plug and play.

Thanks Andy

Some pics. Not sure if it helps.
