Facelift Charcoal Canister Routing

So I realized my Rochester valve went bad. Basically the vacuum didn’t have any effect on the operation of the valve, so I chucked it and replaced it with the AC Delco part.

I may have asked this before, and I could not find a picture that would answer this question, but I noted the charcoal canister had one port that was not connected to any hose. I couldn’t find any disconnected hoses in the area. Is the canister supposed to be that way?

I have circled the port in question. Thanks.

Everything about that setup is different than mine. I will note that my carbon canister had three ports, one for gas tank, one for purge, one to carbs. Being an EFI car, obviously the port to carbs was not used. It was sealed off, though, didn’t look anything like yours.

For some time I have been suggesting that Rochester valves be installed with inline fuel filters in the hose on either side. That would keep crud from either the fuel tank or the carbon canister from getting into the tiny ports in the Rochester valve and plugging them up.
