A few days ago I finally got to start up my project XJ6 after a home top end rebuild. Still lots left to do but now it runs at least.

Lots of work there.
The coolant leak may be due to incorrect positioning of the lift eyes. And, maybe the type of lift eyes.
I though S2 engines has the aluminium arches that went across the engine rather than in parallel. And the later ones were only on the intake side. The head studs are longer where the eyes are fitted, to accommodate the added length. If you put a nut on a stud that’s a longer one for an eye, the nut will bottom out on the stud, and not clamp the head.
The early eyes were thicker that the later ones too.
I would check the type and location of the eyes.
You might try another washer under the leaker. I’ve read here that removing a single nut at a time is okay.
