That acelleration, 4.51 g, doesn’t seem so encredible in top fuel. Is clocking the dragster at 60 FEET a common practice for which records are kept and broken?
not all tracks keep that type clocks(to many variables for such a short distance),
60 feet is like around 3.5 car lengths, 90 mph is quite respectable for a two wheel rear drive vehicle!
OK what type guys think and DO these kind of things?? 9000/10000 HP out of 8L V8 engine , stop and put that into any perspective , nothing on the planet is close!
we could say F1 is special but to me not even close to Top fuel stuff!

F1 is special, very special when you take all things into consideration…engine size of under 100 cu (about 16.L) producing around 950hp…and it has to go for around 2hrs flat out…and last more than one race…and with a limited use of fuel per formula guidelines…and the entire car has to go through multiple gyrations of braking and cornering with G forces changing in all directions. Current engine efficiency is around 50%, which is incredible.
most people cant get out of there driveway, in 60 feet , and doing 90mph , i think its impressive!
Les BMW had a 1.5L 4cyl. way back that made 1500hp, now that is impressive!

All high-performance engines are amazing, and comparing apples to kumquats is a fool’s errand.
A Top Fueler is in its own class, however…
but the people who think & build this stuff are unbelievable , its been said the blower is actually a fuel pump very little air forced in cylinder!

But how
Long did the beemer motor last? What car did it go into?
That is an incredible article!!!

that BMW 4cyl. was around 1980, for an F1 car, turbo stuff was coming on strong!
they wanted to find the limits of different types of engines !
another car/engine that shocked the world was for the ROLEX/IMSA races , 1994 a Toyota car,DAN GURNEY, broke the Daytona road course track record, it held that record till just last week, and was broken by only a couple tenths!
DGs Toyota was a 2.0L 4cyl. supposedly pushing over 75psi boost ,in 1994 yikes, i have pix someplace?
no doubt that Toyota knew much about building turbocharged engines , like there famous 2JZ 6 inline , braking many records , making well over 2000HP + today!

BMW M10, sweet engine! They used old standard blocks, of course today’s tech makes for better power, but still impressive…
