For what is the "DS" in the model name of Daimler for example in the DS420 abbreviation?

Please tell me the background. Sorry, DS4200 was not right, the right name is DS420.

My guess, and that is purely what it is, would be Daimler Saloon

All though not a direct answer the DS was an internal factory model code for limousines, DB for small saloons/drop heads, DM was used for mid-sized saloons (owner driver), DE for the largest owner driver saloons and DC for commercial car-based chassis (ambulances).

I don’t think there was an actual word associated with the letter designation though. But I’ll be interested if someone does know!

A bit like the DC 9 and more, where McDonell Douglas used DC for Douglas Commercial😊
