While doing much work on my 420 compact sedan I am preparing to install the front crossmember and engine later this week. Upon cleaning my engine bay, I found an area just behind the motor mounts with cracks. Both in the engine bay and in the wheel well side. I cleaned it up good and welded the cracks on inside and out. Also in the wheel well I had several poorly done spot welds cracked out just aft of the cracked weld joint. Just stitch welded those. They are not perfect looking, but I only have a 110v Flux core welder…
This structure is similar if not the same as the 3.8S or even the MK2. Just posting as a FYI.
