Fuel gauge woes X-300

I am considering buying an X300. The petrol gauge shows empty and the warning light is also on, but the seller is sure the tank is nearly full. Would love to hear from anyone who can help. Does this mean zero ohms, ie a short somewhere?

If it is a faulty sender, has anyone replaced one and where can I get info on the procedure? Is the special tool necessary?. Have been searching for hours!

Also this is a 3.2 L Australian model. What does the very fine mesh grille mean?

easy fix,the fuel sender unit has to be replaced,10 minute job,no special tools requi8red,cost is about 40 dollars for the part, located in the trunk on the gas tank,be sure to only have a quarter tank full when you open it up,otherwise you will have a trunk full of gas
