To add to the fun, sometimes barbs are installed backwards, which makes it a real beyatch to push the fuel lines on. Specifically on my car there are backwards barbs at the fuel cooler and the return pipe at the firewall under the brake booster (LHD). IIRC the barbs are simply a sleeve that is soldered over the tube, they are not formed into the tube. There was much debate on the forum awhile back about why these were intentionally installed backwards. Personally I think it was just laziness / oversite at the factory. At some point I will de-solder mine and flip them around.
