Getting the best out of standard suspension components for touring driving today

So, those lower control arm bushings…

…I finished bench-testing them today. 6 different bushings, tested for stiffness in 3 directions, total 108 tests. I was tempted to go straight to the conclusion but I’ve heard people prefer my typical long, tedious buildup with charts and irrelevant detail, it will take a little time to put that together.

So meanwhile…

  • I couldn’t get the Whiteline top-hat bushings to stay reliably seated in the housing so dropped them part way through the test series. I thought the cause might be their top-hat shape was incompatible with the taper in the housing (dangler) but when I finally got around to measuring that taper…

(meanwhile #2) - there wasn’t any. Just a straight bore. An eBay photo gave the impression of a taper, others thought it could be real - was it ever used, outside my imagination?
