Got a Lift... get one

True, though a notable exception seems to be some muffler shops. Access is good enough for exhaust system work and I suspect they find the 4-post to be more idiot proof (not saying that all their employees are idiots, just some).

You can jack the front of the car up but you MUST jack it under the Picture
Frame and be sure the hardwood strip is in there to spread the load. This
is in the Jag manual. People make the mistake of lifting the front under
the bonnet mount frame. This is bad news, don’t do it!

Or the radiator support. Mine came to me with a pair of ‘outies’ (circled in pre-paint photo) that corresponded to the corners of the radiator:

that E-type doesn’t look very happy. She’s frowning. lol

I LOVE the slave axle idea!!

Just used what was lying around, Ford (UK) escort rear hubs n` stubs
and scaffold pipe.
Model P6! I recall they run 9 to 1 comp (UK) and 100 octane specified,
“pinking” sometimes a prob, back the ignition but then not as sharp.
Thought you would have preferred the V8 (Buick) version.

If it had come with a 5-speed, maybe: as it was, they all came with that dreadful BW slushbox, drove like crap, and were an absolute nightmare to work on.

I toy with the idea of fixing up one of my 3500 parts cars, by installing a T5 World Class Tremec, but…time. Money.

Lift…

Thank you Les. Yes, the PO gave me a basic “E-Type 101” class before giving me they keys. This included the wooden block and showing me exactly where to place it to lift the car. I, and the car, were very lucky he owned it.

Hehehe! That’s a great image!

YW, glad you got a decent PO

I had a BendPak 10000lb 2-post asymmetric lift installed in my car barn several weeks ago. It has low-profile arms and lifts my S3 OTS and a wide range of other vehicles easily. Vehicle doors open quite wide while on the lift. I had requested info from several of the major lift brands (I only considered ALI-certified models, many are not certified) and a BendPak rep called me within a few days, others sent only emails. After further research, I decided to go with BendPak. ( There was no hard sell by the rep while I was doing my research.) The rep arranged everything, including shipment from their Calif facility to a local installation facility near me in NC, shipping ( 1900 lb) included in the lift price. I arranged an installation time with the installers who then brought the lift to my barn on a trailer and installed it. They were very professional and efficient, obviously had done this many times. I paid $700 for that. It all went very smoothly and I was very impressed with BendPak’s overall service. The quality of the lift looks excellent with great attention to detail. Extensive literature came with the lift including detailed installation and care instructions and a catalogue of lift points on many vehicles back to 1991. The entire process could not have been better.

BendPak in my opinion is one of the top 5 lifts, if not the top. I would own one if I could afford one. but I went with a non ALI-certified lift through gregsmithequipment.com. which I’ve had for nearly 5 years and has worked great! See @MLee december 22nd post on this thread. about how I put it together. I should’ve put the process on youtube. :slightly_smiling_face:

I too had the 2 post BendPak installed a few weeks ago. Have not had a car up on the lift yet. Retailer includes installation by the “Three Stooges”.
Long story short, columns placed wrong distance apart, drill new holes and fill old ones with epoxy. Manual says not to use impact wrench to tighten anchor bolts
If installer knows how to use one carefully mabe OK? But if they just hammer and
hammer on that impact wrench it will pull anchor too close to surface. This is what has happened in my case, anchor sit 2-2 1/2 embeded . Have 5" depth of concrete. Will get new anchors and replace myself, seller say this is OK to have anchor this close to surface,
Did a test of anchor- drove anchor down in concrete leaving a few threads above steel base plate. With a 5 foot pipe (cheater bar) I could not torque this tight enough to pull anchor up as high as that impact wrench. When I contacted BendPak Corp. they said “just relocate lift to another location” CYA!

Did you explain to them that it would be hard to get the lift through such a small orifice?

Good thought!
This lift was to be the crowning jewel of my new garage, very disappointed but I will make it right. Installed new 5 hp. compressor yesterday and had to make a muffler for air intake out of a 5 gal. drink cooler with rubber baffles. Much quieter now.
Glenn

would like a pic of the muffler whenever convenient.

Don’t know how to post pictures.
Just took 5 gal. cooler drilled hole at bottom for a 1" PVC pipe that air cleaner attaches to. Used a black pipe elbow and nipple off of compressor head to connect pvc. This all stands upright above compressor.
The key is the rubber material. One 1" layer with drilled holes sits above air cleaner and another 1" piece with holes not lined up with other holes in first.
This piece now replaces plastic lid. This rubber material was purchased from Tractor Supply, used for horse stalls. Also used on floor of compressor closet.
Very heavy dense material that absorbs sound well.

Sorry to hear about your unprofessional installation experience. My understanding is BendPak uses only installers they have certified but that ‘s not included in the lift price. Maybe yours were different if you bought thru a third party, I dealt directly with BendPak.
