I think that is a good plan.

We bought our old '62 Thunderbird after an old friend (since 6th grade - a collector who knew us and knew Fords) looked at it and drove it in California. His report was accurate .While a good car, the wife and I would not have bought it if I looked at it IN PERSON. When we sold it I more or less insisted the buyer see it in person. He did send a personal rep - his mechanic. The rep completed the purchase.
There are many subtle issues with old cars. Absolutely no substitute for seeing it yourself.
