I removed the harmonic balancer and pulleys to remove the oil pan. In doing so, I separated the pulleys from the balancer itself. (My 4.2 car has aircon and PS. 4 belts, plenty of pulleys)
I marked both damper and pulley before separating, but in my rookie haste, I did it poorly. I now see there are other marks that make things a bit ambiguous. There are four potential orientations when I reassemble it and I wonder which is correct to assure balance.
So,
Does it matter?
Can I balance this at home? If so, how?
Is this something someone else could balance for me? Any mechanic? A machinist?
Or can this only be done with the crank and reciprocating / rotating masses all known?
If you haven’t cleaned the pulley or damper,if you look closely you might see some witness marks on the inside end of the pulley where it locates slightly inside the damper?
In regards to balancing the pulley itself isn’t a large mass so not absolutely imperative that it’s balanced. You could get the damper and pulley re balanced as an assembly separate from the crank. Not the absolute way to do,it but we’re not talking of a full blown race engine are we?
