Headlight switch

I need some help to assemble back the headlight switch on my Jaguar XJ12 Series 3 from 1988, the one with 5 positions. Does anyone have a sketch or a picture of how to assemble correctly?

Adrian,

if you include pics of the parts you disassembled it might be easier to help you out.

The switch itself is typically described as one single part while its installation is not quite self-explanatory. The installation is depicted in the parts catalogue though (on Jaguar classics website). So did you tear that switch apart?

Fabian,

the three tabs fit into the three slots on the part with the little springs. Only works one way: with the open ent at 6 o’clock in the picture I think. The two brass tabs on the rear plate must slide over the knob; I bent them accidentally but could fix it in the second try. If the knob slipped out remove the two C shaped clamps, springs and balls and refit them when it’s all together. Lastly refit the opticell cables and then the switch should work and feel as it used to.
If something seems wrong report back.
