I’m seeking to better understand all the components of the heating system on my late model S2.
In particular, I see there is hot water flow controlled by a heat control valve through various tubing behind the firewall and back out to the intake header and other connections??
In particular, there are two hoses connecting from the firewall on the passenger’s (right) side of the car to a fairly large tank also attached to the firewall that is a mystery to me - can’t find this part or connections to it in any on-line parts manuals. Seems to be a late model addition to the S2 model.
Can someone advise as to what this tank’s purpose might be?
Hi Bob, welcome to the forum, I can’t help with the query you have but if you can post a photo others may be able to assist.
Thanks for a quick response. Will take a pic and post tomorrow.
Bob welcome to the forum you will have a great time here. My 1970 US S2 should have the same setup I‘ll be happy to send pictures.
Bob;
Either you have a car that someone has ‘fixed’ or your understanding of the sytem is not correct. The ‘tank’ may be the coolant tank on the bulkhead but not connected to the heater.
You are correct that the heater supply pipes enter and exit from the right side and the same on the leftinto the heater matrix. There is also a vacuum pipe that is a slight bit smaller then the heater pipes that may confuse you.
I think you are getting the heating and cooling system mixed up a bit. Richard Liggitt’s book for the Seres 2 E Type will be a big help and you should buy one if you don’t already have it.
<xkebooks.com> should get you the web site. I have no association with him or the book.
Regards, Joel.
Is the tank down low on the right hand side? If so, that is the vacuum reservoir and the lines are vacuum lines for the brake servo
You are looking at the reservac, which maintains vacuum pressure for the brake system. It’s mounted low on the passenger side firewall. There’s a single hose connecting it to the manifold, and a check valve on top, which also connects to a pipe that runs behind the firewall and out beside the brake booster. The hot water source for the heater is also on the right side of the manifold, that connects through a tube to the heater valve on the other side. The heater return is a pipe bolted below the manifold, so you have a third line on that side.
Thank’s for the help - I now see that it is indeed the vacuum reservoir tank - I didn’t realize that a vacuum tube also went behind the firewall.
I’ll forward a pic to confirm - a bit dusty but you can see the top of the tank and hoses going to it.
Yep that’s it
