Help Identifying Pipe

Hello All,

This pipe was in my boot with other bits and pieces off my part completed project car which is a 1958 LHD XK150 DHC Auto.

Please can anyone tell me if its a part off the car and if it is where it should go and what its function is.

Thanks for helping

Andy

Going on what is fitted to my MK9, It looks like the heater pipe.
It starts off near the distributor, the brackets bolt to the engine block and then it runs along the firewall.

It is certainly a heater pipe, but it doesn’t look like the picture in the XK150 Spare Parts Catalogue. I am inclined to suspect it is from a saloon model.

I agree with Rob. It looks like the heater pipe that runs behind the carburetors

on my 1960 MK IX

quite simple this is the pipe on an early XK150 that takes vacuum to the booster ie from RH side of motor to LH side then there is a hose the rest of the way

Agree. It’s the wrong shape for a heater pipe, and the clamps are not spaced correctly.

Thanks for your response.

Yes its certainly very similar to the heater pipe but its a different shape to the actual heater pipe which is in position on the car.

Hi Rob, thanks for your response.

Yes I thought that it may be from a different model.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for responding.

Yes but its a totally different shape.

Hi Terry,

Thanks a million for figuring that out - I now know how to put it back together.

My car doesn’t have a servo installed and there wasn’t one with the car so I’m thinking of going down the road of an aftermarket remote servo.

I believe an E-Type servo will work well in a 150. I was able to repair mine but 150 servos are difficult to find. Judges can’t see them anyway.

Andy,
Can you post the dimensions of the pipe? I’ve got to fabricate one for my 150. Thanks.

Best to make one out of soft copper pipe.

metal body parts are available for mounting the servo under the wing, also to house the servo tank from Jolly Roger

Just looked at my 150 servo pipe. …yes its a home made job out of copper pipe…Steve

Steve,
Where does it mount ? SNG lists it as on the firewall, but I cant see anywhere those brackets would reach.

Couple of photos from my 1960 rhd fhc…first photo its pipe fitted close on the bulkhead…Steve

Steve,
Thanks for those photos, they’re very interesting.
They also represent the third iteration of fitment I’ve seen.
All very similar:

brake tube 7

I think this last picture most closely resembles the 150S diagram in the SPC.

Ok will do,

Its at the powder coaters now that I know I need it but due back at the end of the week.

Thanks for the photos Steve.

I’m currently on brakes and suspension. There are so many parts that you just haemorrhage money! Plus I’m thinking of pushing the boat out and buying the top & bottom ball joints plus trackrod ends from UK specialist Amsteer.

So, to offset this splurge I’m looking at going for the Powertune LE10117 servo at £96 with free delivery from the David Manners Group on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264180279383. The ratio is 1:3 and it should fit above a battery box. However, I don’t know whether its designed to work on its own or with a vacuum tank as per the original setup. Any ideas?

Hi Andy…no idea…,sorry…although i see no reason why you shouldnt be able to use a vac tank…Steve
