Help with engine number

I’m getting stuff ready to take to the Carlisle flea market tomorrow and I can’t find what car has an engine number starting with E. I know the Mark 7, 8, 9 used prefix A,B,C, & D and the 120 used W & F, but what used E? I guess someone just grabbed the wrong stamp after lunch at the pub.

Phil.

Phil,

Here’s a link to the Jag-Lovers website info on engine serial numbers:

http://www.jag-lovers.org/xk-lovers/library/engine_numbers.htm

According to that list an engine number starting with an “E” would be from a C-Type or D-Type. If this was true, and your engine was original, I would think it would be worth quite a bit.

Better check more carefully. It could be a letter F or BE or NE or KE or LE or 7E. The casting part number Cxxxxx is more important.
