Interesting fuel line repair

While peeling the onion I came to remove the fuel tank. I found that someone had to repair (soldered) the tank vent line as it ran along the top of the tank, but under the plywood floor boards. I’m assuming someone noticed the loss of fuel following a fill-up one fine morning.

So boys and girls, as we do our pre-flights there is a fuel line prone to fail in a place that nobody ever, ever looks. You’ve been warned.

Also, this is one filthy filter.

And my shop now stinks of varnishy-gasoline. Filling it with argon isn’t helping (I had to grind off the sender screws). It still smells bad. The good news is the tank is in great shape.

and the filter is spotless.
