IRS cage install?

When installing the IRS cage should the mounting brackets be attached the car body and THEN the IRS cage assembly, or attach to the IRS cage first then the car body after lifting the cage. Both options seem like a PITA.

Dave, when I did mine last summer, I found through a little trial and error that the best way was one on the cage and one on the car. I honestly can’t remember whether the front was on the car and rear on cage, or vice versa. Both on the car doesn’t work well at all.

Rears must be bolted to the body. Fronts start on the cage.

There you go. @mminnich for the win.

Rears attached loosely and a number of drifts and LOTS of patience.

It’s in the Jaguar Workshop Manual …

I’ve always attached all four to the body and then lifted the cage up into position. No matter how you do it, a few old #2 phillips head screw drivers and tapered drifts will be your best friends.

David,
You are right. I need to RTFM more carefully.

Dave put the rear ones on the car and the front ones on the cage.

You will struggle to access the bolts for the rear ones if you don’t do it this way.

Cheers

Who would read the manual :astonished: I can tell who’s done it by the answers and who’s tried it by not following the manual
