Jaguar engine can any one tell me what I came out of

I have a engine from a jaguar can anyone please tell me what I came out and anything about it g4820 on block and d1217-8 on the head

The G on the block is likely 140. The D on the head sounds like Mk7.

1955 xk140 would that be likeliest I looked it up

Unless I am mistaken the breather on the front of the head is 90deg out

No the breather is correct, notice the two studs for mounting a coil.
Your reading of G4820 on the right side of the block may be C4820 which is the block casting number.
Look on the flat protrusion where the oil filter is attached. There may be a number stamped there with hand stamps like this W3962-8.

D1217-8 would be a Mark VII head from mid 1954.The yellow paint is a throwoff.
If the crankshaft turns it might be worth a bit, but less if its rusted and doesn’t turn.
Depends on where it is.

Yes just seen the photo of the bring a trailer shots of the XK120 predates all my cars.
