I own a 1995 Jaguar XJ6 3.2 Sport and have owned it for 18 years.
Suddenly the car will not start (just a click) when the shift is in Park unless I give it a wiggle. Sometimes it even then won’t start but does if I put the shift into Neutral.
Is there a selenoid und the Shift that needs replacing or is it in the engine compartment.
I hear the usual clicking when I press the brake pedal but this is now getting a problem. Car is due to go in for MOT and I wonder if this will be a failure.
In the center console direct to the right of the J-gate there is a linear switch that is starting to fail.
Probably just bad contacts, but that’s not 100% sure.
They all do that at a given moment. I have two V12’s that both have this. I am figuring out a way to restore this switch because tey are obsolete. Only second hand available.
For the time being you might be able to start it in N instead of P.
But that may fail anytime as well.
I am a bit surprised there is so little to find about this defect online, or in this otherwise fabulous Jag Lovers website. See picture, item labeled number 29
