Jaguar XJ6 Series III Transmission Fit

Hello
Please is it possible series 3 have one transmission that would be interchangeable from the 1979 to 1987 or it should strictly be by part numbers to fit from one car to other?

Kindly help

Thanks

Mike

The BW 65 or 66 are very similar and will interchange.
The physical difference is the oil pan.

And the torque converter should match the transmission afaik the complete transmission is a very simple swap. Besides pulling the engine of course. The 66 is better though and it’s worth staying with.

Mike,

just adding to what Motorcarman and David wrote - I’m a bit confused about your year indications: your nickname suggests your car is a clear SIII, but your question is a bit confusing as 1987 cars are typically (i.e. in most parts of the world) XJ40 cars - US model year designation habits may be playing tricks though. Just to make the point: gearbox changes between SIII and XJ40 may be possible, but are not what Motorcarman and David referred to.

Good luck

Any box, automatic or manual, fitted originally to the ‘Series’ car would fit any of them, Michael - with a variety of work involved…

As Motorman and David implies; the ‘65’ and ‘66’ are direct swaps - the latter is an evolution of the former…
