Jerry Moutons E-Type On BaT

Jerry’s “MIK Jaguar” is up on Bat:

For those who are not familiar with out late, dear friend Jerry Mouton, and his car “MIK Jaguar”, this is, by FAR, the BEST driving E-Type I have ever driven. If you’re looking for an E-Type to be driven as it was designed to be driven, you will be hard-pressed to find a better example. This car is beautiful, and mechanically rock-solid, and cosmetically excellent. I have driven it several times since he passed away, most recently just two days ago, to perform a few very minor repairs, and ensure it is 100% ready for sale. I can state without reservation that it needs NOTHING! It looks great, and runs magnificently. I would not hesitate to jump in it, and drive cross-country tomorrow, if asked.

And, it includes MANY spares - a complete set of spare 6" wire wheels, with nice, sticky 50-series tires for auto-crossing, a spare Moss box, spare generator and starter, a set of Koni shocks and new springs (swapped out in favor of adjustable shocks years ago), and a literal mountain of small parts - gaskets, bearings, seals, filters, various switches, gauges, trim, chrome, etc., etc. It even includes a nearly complete original tool roll and Thor hammer.

As most of you will be aware, Jerry was an avid auto-crosser, and this car was a force to be reckoned with, when fitted with the spare 5-series wheels and tires. I’ve driven it in auto-cross many times, and the handling was absolutely SPECTACULAR, typically coming in only a second or two behind even such cars as Porches Boxsters.

If you know anyone in the market for a Series I E-Type coupe, send them a link to this ad. If you knew Jerry, and the car, please go to BaT, and add some comments, letting potential buyers know what an opportunity this really is.

Regards,
Ray L.

Odd I posted a long comment last night and BAT ate it :frowning:

Was it your first post? If so, it has to be moderated before it appears.

Nope I’ve commented on multiple jags for a couple years

I knew MIK was going on BAT eventually. Needless to say, Jerry was a huge part of JL over the years and we miss him. I hope his car goes to someone who shows half the care he did.

I’ve had that happen a few times. Something triggers their spam detector, and they have to review it before posting. On the last occasion this happened the problem persisted, and I had to contact them before they fixed my account. I’ve got into the habit of putting the comment into my clipboard before submitting it in case it doesn’t post.

Left a comment just now and it posted very quickly. This is a great example of the E-type and I know Jerry kept it in perfect running condition.

A lot of good looking pics in the BAT auction, but BAT buyers really want complete undercarriage photos, and those are missing, except for a few that don’t really show much. If you can add them before the auction ends, it will help get top dollar.

I agree, were you guys not able to get it on a lift? At least the boot seams are shown but no good floor pan shots.

The photos were taken mostly by one of Jerry’s sons. No access to a lift that I know of. I have asked him if he is aware of any photos of the underside that could be added to the ad. Jerry had a million photos of MIK, there may be some in there. For sure there is no accident damage or rust on MIKs underside.

It’s just a BAT thing. Even if you swear on your mother’s grave that everything is fine or offer inspections, etc, they still want certain things if the seller is going to get top dollar.

Undercarriage photos are a big one, but pics of each corner with the wheels off, driving videos from the inside perspective and outside perspective, walk around videos, and videos showing every feature working are all big ones too. The ad does have a start up video, which is great.

BAT buyers also like things like compression tests, engine oil analysis reports, and head gasket tests on old cars, and most importantly very active participation in the chat section from the seller with good answers to questions. Sellers that say they are going to be out of town during the auction, or the seller saying they’ll have to ask the owner for every answer, they don’t know how to use computers, or sellers saying they never bothered to test a feature, like the heater, because it’s never cold in their neck of the woods, just end up getting eaten alive and the auction ends up reserve not met, or a low final selling price if no reserve like this auction.

If it’s not practical to have those things, then BAT is not the best place to sell the car. The peanut gallery will quickly tank the sentiment on the car. That’s happened way too often to be just an opinion of mine.

Fortunately, I had all the those things above and sold a Lotus on BAT for a 35% more than I paid for it 9 months earlier, and it sold for much more than the other ones just before it on BAT even though those had a fraction of the miles on them, so I know from experience that having the right components delivers results on BAT.

The BAT audience is far reaching and hence want all of the input Philip mentions. Basically everything they would need for a PPI without having to travel or rely on someone else’s opinion. The right car, presented well and managed well by the seller in the comments section can hit a home run. I don’t think it’s just a BAT thing, most discriminating buyers want the same. It’s just done less publicly.

I’m new here. What does the car name MIK mean?

Yes and for the most part it’s reasonable concern. What will be interesting is whether they’d place more value on personal experience from extremely knowledgeable people who knew Jerry and his car well. Personally I’d take that over a $500 one hour inspection by a person that might be only vaguely knowledgeable about E-types any day and twice on Sunday.

The CA license plate number it’s worn since the '70s starts with “MIK”. Jerry always referred to the car as “MIK Jaguar”, a play on “Mick Jagger”.

I suppose that’s the best place for it.

I agree. The risk, however, is that the buying public, unfamiliar with the inside baseball of the club and forum, may think it’s just a bunch of friends hyping the car. The car, of course, speaks for itself first and those in the know, or not, can take a good look, supporting your point about a heavy doses of detailed pictures and videos. The friendly comments can then be weighed against the visual and auditory on screen analysis.

As you said, if I know a club member (any club) and they are knowledgeable, know me and bless a car I’m considering, it beats any other PPI other than my own.

I hope so John, then maybe Glenn (Mellowyellow) and I might have a chance at it

Which will be reinforced by the fact that the price was bid up quickly by members of this group.

When I looked at it the other day and saw that, my immediate reaction was “uh-oh”

I’m sure the folks who bid are doing so in good faith - that if no one else bids they’d be happy to pay that much for the car, but if I was an outsider and I followed all the links to information on the car, and I saw that the group of people who are vouching for the authenticity of the advertisement are also the group of people who are hiking the bid price, that would be a huge red flag.
