Just a quick one: Coolant

In Ukadia we have three choices; green (silicate?), blue (same but different?) or red (organic acid). Currently using the red – the modern funny acid or some sort. There appear to have been unfounded horror stories about red coolant and older engines – MG club initially warned off but has now recanted. Car is due a flush and refill so what do I go for?

Least technical answers are best.

Blue anti freeze in engines older then 1999 !

Cheers Ian - Any particular recommendation (Brand etc).

Will mix 60% distilled water and chuck a bottle of ‘Water Wetter’ in for good measure.

Most you can buy now is ready to use , and they want the same price as it was concentrated ,
I got this off e-bay , I can recommend the price , and had no issues with it !
I got my rad uprated with a new core , I asked the guy who did it about distilled water , he said rain water is best ! Uploading: 20180602_112956 - Copy.jpg…

Thanks Ian.

No cooling issues with our car (famous last words) and we do have a rainwater butt, but no doubt full of leaves etc. so will stick to 99p 2L juggards from the supermarket.

All the best,

By the way, Ian, what is the significance of 1999 as the cut off?

Think I am right in saying blue is for engines with Iron blocks !
