Oftentimes when I start my 1995 Jaguar XJS - especially when it’s been sitting for a few hours - it cranks up with a roar. I don’t think it’s necessarily a “problem” but it’s kind of a janky sound, and I know that Jaguar didn’t intend for that. This was a $60k+ car when it was released nearly 30 years ago.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Would replacing the belt do the trick? Thanks in advance for your insight.
I assume you have the 4.0 liter straight 6? Or are we talking about the V12?
Not sure what you mean by ‘roar’, but my 88 V12 roars for the first minute or so when starting cold, it’s simply the fan clutch, as the engine was shut down while it was hot, so fan is still fully engaged. It soon quiets down.
You and Chris must both have male Jaguars, if they both “roar”. Pretty sure mine is a female- She “moans” quietly once in a while, I sound I am accustomed to hearing.
