intermittently lights up. why?
I once worked at an independent Jaguar shop and changed a good customer’s 1985 XJ-S alternator twice (warranty one time) because she said the battery light came on at times.
I could find no fault with the battery or charging system.
She came back again one day and said it is still doing it. I aked if she was sure about the battery light? She growled at me and said that she owned the car from NEW and was sure it was the battery.
I asked her to point out the light and she pointed to the RADIATOR LIGHT (low coolant light).
I told her that it was a picture of a RADIATOR, not a battery!!!
She apologized and I topped up her cooling system. She drove away!!!
It could be the alt is starting to fail but make SURE it is the charging system and NOT the low coolant indicator. (it cost the customer an unnecessary replacement as well as ME wasting time replacing it twice)
