Low fuel light 66 Mk 2

Hello all. On my newly recommissioned '66 Mk2, the fuel gauge is working properly, and has been since it was wired up. However the low fuel light lights whenever the ignition is ON, regardless of how much fuel is in the tank. How can this be when the wires for the gauge and the low fuel light go to different terminals on the same sending unit? I currently have 3/4 of a tank of gas.

Low fuel light Green wire has 12V when you have ignition on. The other wire, White/Green is grounded when fuel is low and then light is on. Either your sending unit is grounding the White/Green wire all the time or the wire is short to ground somewhere between sender unit and lamp. Disconnect White/Green wire from the sending unit. If the light is still on, you have short in wire somewhere between sender and light, if not, the sender unit is faulty. IF you have volt meter/universal meter, you can also measure if the sender unit White/Green output (when the wire is disconnected) is ground or not.

Thanks Kopi, I can check that easy enough.
