[Lumps!] 3.058 diff ratio in a Series III?

In reply to a message from motorcarman sent Mon 12 May 2008:

I have (had as I sold the XJS in December) a 3.058 diff in the XJS.
The gears are 52/17. The 3.07 which is real popular is a 43/13. The
3.058 is a bit stronger in my opinion. It was not imported but
listed for the Swiss market. Mine was a limited slip. Kept tearing
up the TH400 until I put a 6 speed manual but never tore up the
diff. The early Series 3 cars in the USA had a 3.07 but it was a
non-posi. The later (1980+) had a 2.88 non posi. The V12 versions
which were gray market had limited slip (posi)and were also 2.88
ratios.–

I have listed this topic in the XJ6 forum, but since the car is
ACTUALLY a LUMP (or used to be) I thought I would post here as
well. bob
I have a 1985 European XJ6 LHD (they are called grey market cars
here in the U.S.) I bought it with a broken Chevy engine/auto
gearbox for $500.00 USD and I’m not sure if I will replace the
chevy or go back with a 4.2 six and BW66. What I need to know is
what diff ratio came in these cars. I thought they all had 2.88:1
but I put it up on my lift and found a tag with 3.058 attached to
one of the rear cover bolts. I have another 1985 US spec XJ6 parts
car and it has a 2.88:1 (both cars have non-locking diffs). I have
