RETIREMENT!!!

Technically I retired last summer but my final contract is through June
2004 to handle transition at the College.

Wes,
Welcome to the “Early” retirement gang! We usually get together most
Wednesdays at the local 31 flavors to celebrate the “I Grew Up Wanting A Job Like
Ozzie Nelsons Day” (Ricky & David Nelsons Dad & Harriets hubby of the Ozzie &
Harriet Show) Remember him, he was like 35 yrs old in that 1950’s sitcom and
didn’t work, but he sure loved that Ice Cream parlor…the jibe was that he was
like a retired Band leader hmmmm, aint that Limey bloke Ozzie Osbourne a semi
retired Band guy, too? Come to think about it I’m like a semi retired Band guy,
too! I played in a band in the late 70’s and early 80’s until I was forced to
retire due to the Live music industry being hit hard by electronic or that dumb
DJ oriented dreg (Rap, hip-hop, Gangsta, etc. etc…) Oh yeah, just to make
this message legit…I drive my Lump or MGB to the 31 Flavors…I went to one
really neat Ice cream place in Pheonix where they rolled the Ice cream out on
cold marble slabs to put it in your cone or dish or…Ah, where am I…?

This reply doesn’t have anything to do with lumps, but I
caan’t resist weighing in. Those who are not fans of swing
era music, and even those who weren’t around in the fifties
will not know or care who the Nelsons were. Patriarch Ozzie
Nelson the was himself a successful big band leader before he
got into television. The 50’s Ozzie and Harriet show was a
sitcom based on real events in the lives of the family.
Little Ricky Nelson got his exposure singing pop songs during
and near the end of the TV show, and went on to have a fair
amount of success in rock and roll. I don’t remember much
about the TV show cuz I was just a wee lad, but I enjoy that
swing music that Ozzie Nelson was a part of.

Not that anyone cares and especially not me, this next bit
falls into the ‘‘too much information’’ category: Besides Ozzie
and Harriet spawning the fifties and sixties musical
hearthrob Rick Nelson, Ozzie and Harriet are grandparents of
80’s pop flash in the pan NELSON, who were look alike
brothers with trademark straight long blond hair. There’s
even granddaughter best known for her role as the sidekick
nun in the Father Brown mysteries starring Tom Bosley, too.
Quite a family. I don’t think they drove jags, though.

My lump’s not done yet. I’m at the 90/50 stage. Ninety
percent finished, but fifty percent details to clean up.
Everything’s in, but the AC/cruise/heater don’t work right,
the headliner should be redone better, carpets are shabby,
and I gotta get some money together for body and paint.–
